About Us
Harbor Hooves is a nonprofit organization specializing in animal assisted therapy.
We are a Therapeutic Farm located in Elizabeth City, NC. We offer a Sensory Farm, Pony Riding Lessons, Parties, and Petting Zoo Events.
We strive to provide a safe, healthy, and adaptive environment to serve our community and people with disabilities. Each individual being served will be provided with a treatment program uniquely designed to cater to their needs and goals. Our clients’ needs and well-being are at the top of our priority list. Our number one goal is to provide those with disabilities the adaptiveness needed to succeed in life as well as the opportunity to enjoy everyday recreational and leisure activities involving animals.

Kayla Swayne
Chairman/Executive Director
Kayla is a licensed Recreational Therapist and a Board Certified Behavior Analyst. She also has continuing education certifications focusing on Animal-Assisted Therapy. Kayla has been working as a therapist serving the Autism population for the past 4 years. She has strong skills in leading: social skills groups, adaptive sports, and creating and implementing treatment interventions that are unique to her clients.
Brandon Swayne
Assistant Executive Director
Brandon is a Mechanical Engineering Technician at the Norfolk Naval shipyard. He demonstrates strong leadership skills and has a great eye for detail. He has a way of making connections with people in his community through the use of his strong interpersonal skills. He has several years of experience working on the farm and maintaining farm equipment.
Lisa Meads
Treasurer
Lisa brings more than thirty years experience in Finance and Human Resources to Harbor Hooves Farm. During her profession, she gained valuable skills and experience, which she applies to the business administration. Lisa is passionate about financial integrity and staff team excellence. Lisa has a bachelor’s degree in Business Administration. She has a strong heart for serving her community.
Desiree Swayne
Secretary
Desiree has a Bachelor’s Degree in Psychology along with a minor in Special Education. She is a Registered Behavior Technician and works with the Autism population. She is a strong leader in her day to day job and loves the clients she serves. She is now taking continuing education courses to learn more about Animal-Assisted Therapy.
Jeff and Melinda Ford
Trustees
Jeff and Melinda are a dynamic duo. Jeff is a licensed Electrician and operates his own company on a day to day basis. He has the expertise, knowledge and advice beneficial to running a successful business. Melinda works in the school system serving children in her community every single day. She has a strong love for working with kids and has the skills beneficial in teaching and leading educational programs.
